Reading Passage

Lily was a curious girl who loved exploring nature. One sunny Saturday morning, she decided to go on an adventure near her house. She had heard about a mysterious forest at the edge of her town that few people dared to explore. The forest was called the Hidden Forest because it was surrounded by tall trees and thick bushes, making it hard to see from afar. Lily had always been fascinated by stories of secret places and hidden treasures, so she packed her backpack with snacks, a notebook, and her favorite magnifying glass. As she entered the forest, Lily felt a thrill of excitement. The air was cool and fresh, filled with the scent of pine and wildflowers. She noticed tiny footprints in the dirt — maybe belonging to a squirrel or a rabbit — and decided to follow them. The trail twisted and turned, leading her deeper into the woods. Along the way, she saw colorful birds fluttering from branch to branch and heard the cheerful chirping of crickets. After walking for about twenty minutes, Lily came to a small clearing. In the center was a large, flat stone covered in moss. Curious, she sat down to rest and looked around. Suddenly, she spotted something shiny nestled among the roots of a tree. When she reached down, she found an old, rusty key. Lily wondered what it might unlock. Could it be a treasure chest, a hidden door, or perhaps a secret box? Lily felt a surge of excitement. She looked around for clues. Nearby, she noticed a narrow path that seemed to lead toward a hill. She decided to follow it. As she climbed, she saw a wooden door embedded in the side of the hill. The door was old and covered in vines, but the rusty key fit perfectly into the lock. With a turn, the door creaked open. Inside, she saw a small room filled with old books, strange artifacts, and a dusty chest. Lily opened the chest carefully. Inside, she found coins, shiny stones, and a parchment with strange symbols drawn on it. She realized she had discovered a hidden treasure. Excited, she carefully took the items and promised herself to tell her friends about her adventure. Lily knew that her curiosity had led her to a wonderful discovery, and she couldn’t wait to explore more of the mysterious Hidden Forest. As she made her way back home, Lily thought about how exciting it was to find something unexpected. She knew that adventures could happen anywhere — even in a quiet forest near her house. From now on, she promised to always stay curious and brave, ready for whatever new surprises awaited her in her next adventure.
