Extract from A Midsummer Night's Dream

OBERON: I do believe it is thy love’s fair face, And that thou think’st I do not see thee, girl. Thou art as wise as thou art beautiful. Cupid and my foppish page, Helena, Are both forsworn. I do but beg a little joy; My gentle Puck, come hither. Thou remember’st Since once I sat upon a promontory, And heard a mermaid on a dolphin’s back Sing, siren-like, for my sake; And, in my imagination, now I do re-feel That music. Now, I do wish we may be friends, And that we may be merry, as the day is long. Enter Puck. PUCK: What hempen homespuns have we swaggering here, So near the cradle of the fairy queen? What, a play toward? I pray you, remember That I have an office for a prop, And I am sent with a word or two to speak To the king of the fairies. OBERON: Come, Puck, come, Puck; I do remember Thee, thou art as wise as thou art beautiful. Come, sit thee down upon this flowery bank, While I take my way into the thicket. PUCK: Come, now, what news, what news? OBERON: Nothing, good Puck, unless you should have Some thorn-hedge, some prickly pear, To prick the eyes of my fair Queen Titania. PUCK: My lord, I shall do so. Exit. OBERON: Come, thou art as wise as thou art beautiful.
