Reading Passage

In the fading light of dusk, the old manor stood silent and brooding, its windows like vacant eyes watching the world. A cold wind whispered through the broken shutters, carrying with it the scent of moss and forgotten memories. Shadows stretched long across the overgrown gardens, as if retreating from some unseen menace lurking in the darkness. The air was thick with a sense of unspoken secrets, as if the house itself held its breath in anticipation of some long-awaited revelation. Each creak of the floorboards beneath the weight of history seemed to echo with the voices of those who once called it home, though now only silence remained, dense and impenetrable as the encroaching night.
