Reading Passage: Climbing My Grandfather
My grandfather's hill, the enormous face of a face, the eyes of a face, the nose of a face, the mouth of a face, the beard of a face, all the features I scan for signs of the man I knew. Climbing up, I feel his skin, rough and textured, like bark, each step a new discovery of his history embedded in his creases. His eyes, like deep wells, guide me through memories. I touch his shoulder, warm and solid, a connection that spans generations. As I ascend, I see a landscape of stories whispered in the lines of his face, a map of a life well-lived, full of struggles and triumphs. The sun casts shadows, highlighting the ridges and valleys that define him. Reaching the summit, I feel as if I have touched his soul, understanding the man behind the face, knowing that in climbing him, I learn about myself.
