Reading Passage: Eden Rock

They are waiting for me somewhere beyond Eden Rock, And I had not thought that it would be like this, For I had believed in the stories of childhood, Of angels and of saints, and all the divine. But now I see them in the light of the last sunset, As if they were shadows cast by the fading day. I hold my hand out to them, yet they do not see me, Perhaps they are too busy recalling the past, Or perhaps they are waiting for me to join them, To cross over into that distant peaceful shore. And I wonder, do they remember me? Or am I a stranger to their eternity? The water whispers softly, calling me home, And I long to be with them, to rest at last beyond this life.
