Analysis of 'Follower' by Seamus Heaney
My father worked with a horse-plough, His shoulders globed like a full sail strung. The horses strained at the harness, the sweat on his back. He was a farmhand, working the land with a steady hand. I stumbled in his wake, observing him from behind as he guided the plough through the dark earth, the blades slicing into the soil with precision. His or his father’s shoulders had firm, weathered skin, the muscles taut beneath. I admired his skill, the way he moved with confidence, the rhythm of the work. As a boy, I would watch him from a distance, wishing I could emulate his strength and mastery. The landscape was vast, stretching beyond the horizon, dotted with the occasional tree or stone. The air smelled of soil and toil, and the sound of the plough slicing through earth was constant. I remember the way he adjusted his cap and the chain that hung from his pocket, a symbol of his working life. These memories are etched into my mind, a testament to the labor and love that built my world.
