Extract from 'I Think of Thee'

When I consider how my light is spent, Ere half my days, in this dark world and wide, And that I am poor 'Dumb as an owl,' to tell My thoughts to my own heart, and hide my grief In silent shadow, I think of thee. How often, in the quiet of my mind, Thy gentle words, like streams of silver, flow, And lift my spirits from their heavy load. In this solitude, I find solace in thy voice, A beacon shining through my gloom and gloom. Thy memory, a flame that burns so bright, Guides me through the shadows of my despair, And in my heart, I hold thee close and tight, An everlasting love beyond compare.
