Analysis of 'Neutral Tones' by Thomas Hardy
We stood by a pond that winter day,
And the sun was white, and the snow was gray,
The reflections in the water were dull and bleak,
And the silence hung heavy, bleak, and weak.
The smile on your face was cold and thin,
Like the icy wind that chilled within,
And the love we once knew was lost in the gloom,
Like shadows cast in a silent room.
And as I gazed into the frozen pond,
I thought of love that once belonged,
But now, like winter's chill, it is gone,
Leaving behind a landscape forlorn.
