Analysis and Annotation of 'The Farmer's Bride'
Three years at the least, and still I hear / The soft, low, and very sad / As if the sun was setting fast / And the wind was rising. / I saw her turn her face away, / And I sat and watched her go, / Watching for some sign or word / I saw her, through the window, slow, / Turned her face to me, and then she smiled / As if she knew what I was like, / Looking at her, through the glass, / My heart was pounding, all the while / Her face was turning to the sun, / Her figure faintly outlined / In daylight, like a ghost, she shone / And vanished in the wind and rain / As if she floated in the air, / And I was left alone again, / To think of her, and to despair.
