Extract from 'When We Two Parted'

In silence I grieve, and with bowed head, I mourn the love that once was ours, now fled; the memory of your voice, so soft and clear, haunts my mind, a ghost I hold so dear. The past, a shadow veiled in sorrow’s cast, reminds me of a love that did not last; the vow we made, now broken and forlorn, leaves my heart in silence, cold and torn. How could I forget the days of yore, when passion’s fire burned bright and more? Yet time has tempered all our desire, and left behind an ache, a silent fire. Your absence cuts, a dagger in my soul, a wound that time cannot console; yet in this grief, I find a bitter peace, a longing that will never cease.
