Analysis of 'Winter Swans'
The clouds have given their all—two days of rain have driven me away. Suddenly, I realize that if I stepped out of my house, I could do it all over again, the way I did before. The sky is low and gray, like a loaded gun. The wind is sharp, and the duckweed on the pond ripples like a thin sheet of tin. Two swans glide across the water, curved necks touching as if in silent conversation. Their feathers gleam with the cold, and they seem to be calling each other in a language of their own. As I watch them, I think about the fragility of harmony and the strength that comes from togetherness, even in the coldest times.
