Reading Passage
Dear Diary,
Today was one of the most extraordinary days I’ve ever had at Hogwarts. I woke up this morning feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness because I knew something unusual was going to happen, but I didn’t know exactly what. As I got ready for breakfast, I overheard a couple of third-years whispering about the upcoming Triwizard Tournament, a magical competition between three wizarding schools that only happens once every hundred years. I had heard of it before, but I never thought I’d be involved, especially not at my age.
After breakfast, Professor Dumbledore announced during the morning class that the tournament would be held soon, and only students over the age of seventeen could enter. Everyone was buzzing with excitement and curiosity. I couldn’t help feeling a strange pull, like I was somehow meant to be part of something much bigger than myself. Later in the day, during Defense Against the Dark Arts, Professor Lupin mentioned that the tournament was a test of bravery, skill, and intelligence—qualities I’ve always admired in myself, but I never imagined I’d get the chance to prove them on such a grand stage.
As the day went on, I kept thinking about the tasks and challenges the champions would face. I wondered if I could even handle such dangerous magic. But at the same time, I felt a strange thrill—like I was on the edge of discovering something new about myself. Some of my friends, like Ron and Hermione, seemed just as excited as I was, although Ron was a little nervous about the dangers. Hermione, ever the clever one, was already researching the history of the tournament and what kinds of creatures and spells the champions might encounter.
Later in the evening, I stayed in the Gryffindor common room, staring into the fire and scribbling in my journal. I remembered the stories Harry used to tell about his own adventures, about facing dragons and other terrifying creatures. I wondered if I would ever have the courage to face something like that. Part of me hopes I won’t, but another part whispers that I might, someday.
Just before bed, I overheard some older students talking about a mysterious message that had appeared on the notice board in the main hall. It was written in strange, glowing ink, and no one knew who put it there. The message said something about a secret challenge that would test the true strength of a wizard’s heart. I don’t know what it means, but it sent a shiver down my spine. Could it be connected to the tournament? Or is it something entirely different?
As I write this, I feel a mix of anticipation and fear. Hogwarts is full of magic and surprises, and I know that whatever comes next, I will need to be brave. I hope I can find the courage to face whatever challenges lie ahead. For now, I will try to rest and dream of the adventures that await. Tomorrow might bring even more surprises, and I want to be ready for them.
Good night, Diary.
Harry
