Byron's 'Darkness'
I had a dream, which was not all a dream.
The bright sun was extinguished, and the stars
Did wander darkling in the eternal space,
Rayless, and pathless, and the icy heavens,
Benumbed by the frost of the unending night.
The waves were frozen as they moved,
And the winds were silent, dead,
While the earth was covered in a pall of ash and snow,
The land was desolate, silent, and void.
The fruits and flowers had faded away,
And life itself seemed to be fading into the gray,
As if the world was ending in eternal gloom.
Yet in this chaos, a faint whisper of hope,
A flicker of light, remained within the soul,
Urging to endure, to believe, to fight,
Even in the bleakest night, to hold onto the light.
