Reading Passage

Dear Diary, Today was one of those days that started off ordinary but turned into something I’ll never forget. I woke up early, as I usually do on Saturdays, eager to get a jump on my homework and maybe finish that book I’ve been reading. The sky outside was clear, with a bright blue hue that made everything seem cheerful. I looked at the clock—7:00 AM—and decided to have a quick breakfast before diving into my assignments. As I sat at the kitchen table munching on toast and cereal, I heard a strange sound coming from the backyard. It was faint at first, like a soft rustling noise. Curious, I finished my breakfast quickly and peeked out the window. To my surprise, I saw a small, fuzzy creature near the bushes. It was about the size of a squirrel but had a tail that looked like a long, fluffy feather. Its fur shimmered in the sunlight, changing colors from gold to silver as it moved. I rubbed my eyes, thinking I was imagining things, but when I looked again, it was still there. I couldn’t resist. I quietly slipped on my sneakers and tiptoed outside. The creature didn’t seem frightened; it looked at me with bright, curious eyes. I slowly extended my hand, and to my amazement, it came closer and gently sniffed my fingers. It was warm and soft, with tiny paws that looked like miniature gloves. I wondered what kind of animal it was. It didn’t seem like any regular backyard critter I knew. Deciding I needed to find out more, I grabbed my notebook and a pen to sketch and jot down what I saw. The creature sat patiently as I sketched its delicate features. Its ears were pointed, and it had a small, twitching nose. Its fur sparkled even more when it moved, almost as if it was made of tiny stars. Suddenly, it stood up on its hind legs and let out a soft, musical chirp. My heart skipped a beat—this was no ordinary animal. Just then, I heard a faint rustling sound again, but this time from the trees. Out stepped a tall figure dressed in a tattered cloak. To my shock, it was an old woman with twinkling eyes and a warm smile. She looked at the creature and nodded knowingly. “You’ve found Tinker,” she said softly. “He’s a guardian from the Enchanted Forest, a place hidden from most eyes. Not many have seen him, and even fewer have been chosen to meet him.” I was stunned. I had always loved fairy tales and stories about magical creatures, but I never believed I would encounter one in my own backyard. The woman explained that Tinker’s job was to protect the forest and its secrets, and that he was special because he trusted me. She told me stories of other children who had met magical beings and how those encounters had changed their lives forever. The woman waved her hand, and suddenly, Tinker looked up at me one last time with a gentle, knowing gaze. Then he disappeared in a shimmer of light, as if he had been a dream. The old woman smiled again and said, “Remember, magic is everywhere if you believe in it.” As I walked back inside, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder and excitement. I knew that today was just the beginning of a new adventure—one that I would never forget. I couldn’t wait to see what other secrets my backyard might hold. Maybe, just maybe, I’d find my way into the stories that seem impossible but are actually just waiting to be discovered. Tomorrow, I’ll write more about what I saw and what I think it all means. But tonight, I’m going to dream about stars and forests and the magical creature named Tinker. Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll have another visit from my new friend. Goodnight, Diary.
