Reading Passage

In the heart of the mystical land of Lyria, there was a forest unlike any other. Known as the Enchanted Forest, it was a place where magic thrived, and strange creatures roamed freely. The forest was said to be alive, whispering secrets to those who listened closely. Mira, a curious and brave young girl, had heard tales of the forest's wonders from her grandmother. She was determined to see the magic for herself. One bright morning, Mira set out on her adventure, carrying a small satchel with some food and a special necklace her grandmother had given her—an amulet said to protect her from harm. As she entered the forest, the sunlight filtered through the dense canopy, casting shimmering patterns on the ground. The air was filled with the scent of blooming flowers and the gentle hum of unseen creatures. Soon, Mira encountered a shimmering fairy named Luma. Luma had delicate wings that sparkled like tiny stars, and she greeted Mira with a warm smile. 'Welcome, traveler,' said Luma. 'You have a brave heart. The forest holds many secrets, but beware of the Mischief Mages who try to deceive visitors.' Mira nodded, eager to learn more. As she ventured deeper, she found herself in a clearing where a giant, ancient tree stood. The tree's trunk was wide enough to hide a small house, and its leaves glowed with a golden hue. Suddenly, a voice echoed from the tree: 'To pass, you must answer my riddle.' The tree's voice was deep and wise. 'I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have nobody, but I come alive with the wind. What am I?' Mira thought carefully and then exclaimed, 'An echo!' The tree chuckled, and the glowing leaves shimmered brighter. 'Correct,' it said. 'You may proceed.' As she continued, Mira saw a river flowing backward—uphill instead of down. The water shimmered with a strange, bluish light. Curious, she stepped closer and noticed tiny, glowing fish swimming against the current. Suddenly, a mischievous sprite appeared, giggling and darting between the fish. 'Hello!' chirped the sprite. 'This is the River of Mirages. It shows what could be, not what is. Be careful not to be fooled.' Mira marveled at the magical sights and felt more confident. She knew her journey was just beginning, and her heart was filled with hope and excitement. With each step, she learned more about the enchanting world of Lyria and the courage within herself. Eventually, Mira found her way back to the forest's edge, where her village awaited. She knew she would return one day, eager to uncover more of the forest's secrets and share her stories with others. The enchanted forest had become a part of her, a reminder that magic exists everywhere—if only you believe.
