Reading Passage
Liam and Emma had always been curious about the old woods behind Liam's house. One summer afternoon, they decided to explore further than ever before. As they pushed through the thick bushes, Liam suddenly tripped over something hard. Curious, he brushed away leaves and dirt to reveal a crumpled, ancient-looking map. The map was yellowed with age and had strange symbols and markings on it. Both friends were excited and eager to find out what secrets it held.
They carefully examined the map and noticed that it seemed to lead to a hidden spot deep within the woods. The next day, armed with backpacks, flashlights, and the map, Liam and Emma set out on their adventure. They followed the path marked on the map, which twisted around tall trees and over small streams. As they went deeper into the woods, the sunlight dimmed, and the air grew cooler.
After walking for about an hour, they reached a large, flat rock with strange carvings on its surface. Emma remembered reading about similar symbols in her grandfather’s old books. She guessed that this was the spot marked on the map. Excited, they started digging near the base of the rock. To their amazement, they uncovered a small, rusty box. Inside, they found old coins, a locket with a tiny picture, and a note that read, 'To those who seek, the treasure is not gold, but memories.'
Liam and Emma looked at each other, realizing that their adventure had led them to something even more valuable than treasure—stories and memories they would cherish forever. They carefully replaced the box and decided to keep the discovery a secret, promising to return and explore more of the mysterious woods another day.
