Excerpts from The Tempest
PROSPERO: Now my charms are all o’erthrown, / And what strength I have’s mine own, / Which is most faint: now, 'tis true, / I must be here confined by you, / Or sent to Naples. / I pray you, / Work not so hard. I am more myself / Than I appear to be.—Tell your piteous heart / There’s no harm done.
MIRANDA: O, I have suffered / With those that I saw suffer: a brave vessel / Who had no doubt some noble creatures in her / Dashed all to pieces. / O, the cry did knock / Against my very heart. / Poor souls, they perished.
PROSPERO: O, the tragedy of this night. / The clouds, the thunder, and the lightning show / The fury of the gods in their wrath.
(Enter Ariel in the form of a harpy)
HARPY: Remember / This, that you have done: / And, that you have been unkind to your brother / Who is your fellow-in-sorrows; / And that you have wronged / The innocence of your own daughter.
PROSPERO: O, if he have / Put the sea between us, do not forget / That you are the cause of all this.
(Exit Ariel)
PROSPERO: But this rough magic / I here abjure; and, when I have required / Some heavenly music, which even now I do / Theirs not to reason why, theirs not to make reply, / theirs but to do and die: / Into the breach, dear friends, / Once more into the breach, / Into the breach, once more, / Or close the wall up with our English dead. / ..."
