Extract from The Tempest - Act 1, Scene 2

PROSPERO: Now I want / Spirits / To enforce, art to enchant, / And my charms are all o’erthrown; / And what strength I have’s mine own, / Which is most faint. Now, ’tis true / I must be here confined by you, / Or sent to Naples. / I’ll break my staff, / And let me drown. / If I have too austerely punish’d you, / Your compensation makes amends, / For I have given you here a third of mine own life, / Or that for which I live; / Who once again I tender to thy hand, / All thy vexations / Were but trials of my patience. / But thou, my little power, / My spirit, my island, my magic, / In whose power I have enshrined my sovereignty, / May look for vengeance in the future, / When I am free, and wield my sword again— /—And with my own hand / I’ll smite thee, and thy complice.
