Analysis of the April Theses in the Bolshevik Revolution
Untitled Worksheet
Source Analysis: The April Theses
Source A: The April Theses
"The Bolsheviks must seize power immediately. There should be no cooperation with the Provisional Government. Land must be transferred to the peasants without delay. Workers should take control of factories and run them for the benefit of all. Peace must be made quickly, ending Russia’s involvement in the war, regardless of the consequences. These steps are necessary to establish a socialist government and to fulfill the demands of the workers and soldiers who have suffered in the war and the economic chaos. The Bolsheviks will lead the revolution to end the exploitation of the working class and to establish a dictatorship of the proletariat. The time for compromise is over; only decisive action will bring true change." Provenance: Vladimir Lenin, April 1917, speech to Bolshevik party members
