Untitled Worksheet
Introduction to Augustus
Augustus, born Gaius Octavius, was the founder of the Roman Empire and its first Emperor, ruling from 27 BC until his death in AD 14. He rose to power after the assassination of Julius Caesar and transformed Rome from a republic into an empire. His reign marked a period of relative peace known as the Pax Romana, and he implemented many reforms to strengthen the empire.
Source A: A Roman Historian’s View
'Augustus was a master of political strategy, consolidating power through a mix of military strength, clever propaganda, and reforms that gained him the support of the Roman Senate and the people.' Provenance: Modern historian's analysis, published in 2000.
