WWII Home Front: Japanese Internment - Source Analysis
Untitled Worksheet
Analysis of a Primary Source on Japanese Internment
Source A: A Letter from a Japanese Internment Camp Resident
"Living in the internment camp has been a difficult experience. We are confined behind barbed wire, under constant watch. Many of us feel our rights have been taken away without proper cause. We try to maintain our dignity, but the restrictions and the suspicion cast upon us make it hard to do so. Despite this, some community members believe it is necessary for the safety of the country, even if it means sacrificing our freedoms. We hope that one day, justice will be restored and we can return to our normal lives." Provenance: An anonymous letter written by a Japanese-American internment camp resident, 1943, personal correspondence.
